Welcome
This is The Old Coastguard, a family-owned, seaside hotel and restaurant in the fishing village of Mousehole, near the beaches and gardens of West Cornwall, the Minack Theatre and the artists’ studios of Newlyn, Penzance and St. Ives, and just a 10 minute drive from the heliport to the The Scilly Isles.
Our modern version of a traditional inn feeds and waters the traveller before affording them the best night’s sleep they remember. Having done our best to achieve this at The Felin Fach Griffin in Wales and at The Gurnard’s Head on the other side of Penwith Moor from Mousehole, we were blindingly lucky to be asked by the people at Tresco to help them bring The Old Coastguard back to life in 2011.
Fourteen bedrooms, nearly all looking out over glistening Cornish inland waters, with views to St. Michael’s Mount and the Lizard. And an art-bedecked dining room and an outside terrace sitting atop a tropical garden that slopes down to possibly one of the finest spots you will ever find to enjoy a drink on this coastline of ours.
We work relentlessly hard with our team here to help you relax and unwind, sleeping in comfortable beds and eating simple, well executed food that runs with the rhythms of the season and the coastal landscape.
We like The Old Coastguard to be at the centre of its local community and are open every day of the week. We welcome anyone through our doors whether to eat, drink or sleep, or even to use our loos: if you find yourself our way, do make a plan to visit us and bring along your friends, dogs and children.

eat
The day boats and trawlers of Newlyn tie up just two miles west of here. So you’d rightly expect our menu to have plenty of fish and seafood. But game, meat, clever starters and delicious puddings jostle for attention with some success.
More below, including details of our Lunch for Less prix fixe menu.
drink
This is a mighty fine spot in which to drink, particularly on a stormy November afternoon. So the first thing we did when we came here was to build a bar to do it justice and a drinks list that should stand comparison with any. Then we followed up outside with the Crab Shack and the most perfect of terraces above the rocks.

sleep
The salty air of the Cornish seaside and the sheer comfort of our Vispring beds lend themselves effortlessly to a good night’s sleep, whatever Mousehole’s seagulls might have to say. For more on our rooms and our year round offers and packages, tap below.
