THE ARTIST
VICKI NORMAN
About Vicki
Vicki Norman moved to Newlyn in 2022 to follow her dream of painting the Cornish coast. Since joining the Cornish Maritime Trust as Artist in Residence in 2023, Vicki has become immersed in the local charity, who preserve historic Cornish wooden boats and the skills needed to sail and maintain them. In September 2025 she gained her RYA Day Skipper license and was appointed Boat Master to Silverstream, a Sennen Cove crabber sailed and maintained by the Trust.
Vicki’s ongoing relationship with the CMT is a fruitful one; helping to raise funds and awareness for the charity and, in return, gaining rich visual inspiration for her paintings. Anchoring in remote coves and sailing alongside traditional vessels offers extraordinary views that cannot be seen from the land.
“Sailing as a child instilled my love for the maritime world. Now, living in Newlyn, I’m immersed in sailing. The ever-changing light and colour in Mount’s Bay fills me with inspiration.”
Vicki’s Exhibited Work
Vicki’s painting skills are based firmly on the traditional methods of the Newlyn School, capturing the combinations of sail and cloud shapes, the patterns in the water and the soft hues of boats, through a series of timeless works in oils that bridge past and present.
Sizes & Frames
All paintings are framed. The frames are hand painted by the artist, each one is an individual colour, chosen to complement the painting. Some are also hand gilded with gold leaf touches and others are enhanced with antique wax finishes.
The sizes under the images are unframed. The frame width varies in accordance with the size of the artwork. The frames on the largest (24 x 32”) paintings are about 3.75” deep (so add 7.5” to width and height for overall dimensions).
Smaller pieces have narrower frames, they range from 2” to 3.75” throughout the collection. The 12 x16” pieces have 2.75” deep frames (so add 5.5” to width and height for overall dimensions).
