We’re asked not to give away all the local secrets but a little bit of inside knowledge can’t hurt.
For walkers, beach-goers, shoppers, and art-lovers, find a few of our must dos/sees below. For the real top-secret stuff, you’ll have to ask the team across the bar in a hushed voice. To pick up on the latest goings on at The Old Coastguard or locally, head to our Offers & News page. And if you don’t leave our curtilage all day, you probably won’t be alone.

beaches
Cornwall is blessed with seas as blue as the Bahamas (not always as balmy). Mile-long sandy beaches to the south and rugged, hidden coves to the north. All equally stunning. Dogs generally allowed in the off-season but best to check.

walks
This is serious walking territory (Gurnard’s Head above). And whether you’ve got all the gear and are here to walk a section of the South West Coast Path or just want a stroll with sea on your left/right, you’ll find it here.

galleries
The Newlyn and St. Ives schools, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Alfred Wallace, Patrick Heron, Roger Hilton. The names roll off the tongue but the inheritance remains in good hands.
From the more famous to the independents, there’s enough to keep the art lover busy for days on end.

villages
Cornwall’s villages have been the backdrop to popular culture for centuries. From D.H. Lawrence to Doc Martin. Wandering around them with an ice-cream or pasty to hand is a time-honoured way to embrace Cornwall.
Here are out some of our favourites each with their must visit.
